
Dr. Sylvester Ehiagwinah Areghan is a seasoned academic, engineer, and administrator with over two decades of experience spanning teaching, research, and industry in the fields of Wood Product Engineering and Agricultural Technology. A native of Uromi, born in Ibadan, Nigeria, Dr. Areghan holds B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Wood Product Engineering from the University of Ibadan. He has made significant scholarly and professional contributions to sustainable forestry and wood engineering in Nigeria.
Dr. Areghan currently serves as the Provost of the Federal College of Forest Resources Management, Fugar, a foremost institution under the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN), which operates under the Federal Ministry of Environment. Since the commencement of his academic career in 2001, he has steadily advanced through various academic and administrative positions, demonstrating excellence in pedagogy, research, and curriculum development.
He has taught a wide range of engineering and technical courses, including Technical Drawing, Basic Workshop Practice, Forest Engineering, Furniture Design and Construction, and General Farm Mechanization. His research interests include wood technology, renewable materials engineering, wood preservation, and sustainable forest management.
Dr. Areghan’s scholarly work encompasses extensive research on the mechanical and physical properties of wood-based materials, the use of agro-industrial residues, and the development of innovative wood-plastic and cement-bonded composites. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, with many focusing on environmental sustainability and green construction technologies.
Beyond academia, Dr. Areghan has held strategic positions in the private sector, serving as Marketing Manager, Managing Partner, and Foundry Engineer, applying his technical expertise to areas such as product development, customer sourcing, and quality assurance.
He is a committed member of several professional bodies, including the Forestry Association of Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and the Ecological Society of Nigeria.
